Imagine a world where Spock, Darth Vader, and the wild imagination behind "Beetlejuice" all team up for a live-action fairy tale. Actually, you don't have to imagine it at all, because back in the 1980s, this unlikely collision actually happened. Leonard Nimoy, James Earl Jones, and Tim Burton brought a wild adaptation of "Aladdin" to life on one of the best fantasy TV shows ever made.
This fantastical collaboration took place during a 1986 episode of "Faerie Tale Theatre" — a cult-favorite 1980s anthology series that was created and hosted by the late Shelley Duvall. The whimsical series was also known for...

The legal drama is only as good as the lawyers who keep it alive. From the days of "Perry Mason" and "Matlock" to "Better Call Saul" and "Suits," the genre has been a machine for creating iconic characters because of what it takes to be a truly brilliant lawyer: cunning and creativity, extraordinary intelligence, charisma, and sheer grit. The smartest lawyers aren't the ones who can cite the most case law or charm the jury — they're the lawyers who use everything at their disposal to deliver for their clients.

"Lioness" viewers know Laysla De Oliveira as the strong-willed CIA special forces operator Cruz Manuelos, though five years earlier, she had a small part in Marvel's "The Gifted."
The Fox series took place in an alternate timeline where the X-Men went missing, thus forcing underground mutant communities to fight for survival as the government hunts them down. In "The Gifted" Season 2, which aired from 2018 to 2019, De Oliveira played a made-for-tv character named Glow. A kindhearted mutant who can create and manipulate orbs of light, Glow joined the isolationist, subterranean group known as the Morlocks after being rescued from a mental hospital.

Something that every NCIS show has had is a will they/won’t they couple. For example, the mothership had Tony (Michael Weatherly) and Ziva (Cote de Pablo), NCIS: LA had Kensi (Daniela Ruah) and Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen), and Origins has Gibbs (Austin Stowell) and Lala (Mariel Molino). Will the newest series in the franchise, NCIS: New York, have one on the team that Sam Hanna (LA‘s LL Cool J) is joining? Well, Wyatt (Shane Harper) and Addy (Jacqueline Byers) certainly seem like they could fit the bill. For now, Byers said that Addy’s just having fun ribbing Wyatt. “I think there’s moments where she’s like,...

Introduced in 1996 as the replacement for the deceased Assistant District Attorney Claire Kincaid (Jill Hennessy) in "Law & Order" Season 7, Ross had a major role as the series' new Ada until the end of Season 8. Lowell addressed her "Law & Order" departure in detail during a recent conversation with the Television Academy. Digger seems to be digging for the bottom of the box-office barrel, with its first-weekend take on track to become Tom Cruise’s worst since 2007’s Lions for Lambs. After grossing $3.3 million in Thursday previews and Friday showings, Digger is expected to open with around $8 million from 3,300 North American theaters this weekend, against a $125 million production budget, according to The Hollywood Reporter. (Variety reports the budget actually grew to as much as $180 million after its production ran long.) That gross is lower than the $12–15 million Warner Bros. was expecting and would be Cruise’s lowest-earning opening weekend since Lions for Lambs opened to $6.7 million nearly 20 years ago. It's rare for a sports drama to be so good that even people with zero interest in its featured sport can get invested, but that's exactly the feat "Friday Night Lights" pulled off. Premiering on October 3, 2006, the show introduces the world to the small town of Dillon, Texas, a place where the stars of the local high school football team are basically royalty. With its rich characterization and authentic shaky-cam feel, it's no surprise "Friday Night Lights" ranked No. 1 on TVLine's list of best-ever sports series.

Some people might be under the false impression that anthology shows are a quintessentially contemporary TV phenomenon; sure enough, between episodic confections like "Black Mirror" and "Modern Love" and season-divided ones like "American Horror Story" and "True Detective," the format of shows that tell separate, individual stories from installment to installment is all the rage right now. But anthologies have actually been a staple of television for decades; in fact, they were arguably even more prevalent in American TV as early as the 1950s.

Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for “Coven Academy,” now streaming on Disney+.
“Coven Academy” was supposed to be the first true young adult drama in the history of Disney Channel. The series, set at a New Orleans boarding school for witches and warlocks, is bloodier and darker than the network ever got with other magical fare like “Wizards of Waverly Place.”
Ultimately, those qualities drove Disney to decide “Coven Academy” would be more at home on Freeform. “I think this shares more DNA with a classic CW show like ‘Vampire Diaries,’ or even the ‘Sabrina’ revival on on Netflix,...

For as consistently as "Friends" celebrated the holidays, it's usually the Thanksgiving episodes that get talked about — not the ones produced for Christmas. Maybe that's because the hit rate isn't as strong for the latter holiday. "Friends'" Christmas episodes were generally less focused, often bogged down by unrelated plotlines that dampened whatever holiday spirit they managed to muster.
On the other hand, the best holiday moments of "Friends" and the show's best Christmas episodes overall are memorable because the group's unconventional makeup subverts the Christmas subgenre automatically. The season for reuniting with family serves as a backdrop for one character...

David Ellison has emerged victorious. And he’s boldly — or arrogantly, if you prefer — decided to name the entertainment giant that he’s bolted together Skydance Corp., nodding to the original name of his film production firm that has swallowed up two Hollywood studios over the past 14 months.
Defying skeptics and beating back opponents, Ellison has harpooned his white whale in buying Warner Bros. Discovery. Now he has to prove that the $111 billion mega-merger can become a profitable entertainment powerhouse, and not just a vessel that will get sucked under by a massive whirlpool of debt.

There's a lot of buzz surrounding the Netflix adaptation of "East of Eden," led by Florence Pugh. If you've watched it already, you may be wondering where you've seen the guy who plays Caleb Trask before. That would be Australian actor Joseph Zada, and if he looks familiar, it could be because you've seen him in the trailers for the next installment in the "Hunger Games" franchise, "The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping." He will star as a younger version of tribute-turned-mentor Haymitch Abernathy, portrayed by Woody Harrelson in the Jennifer Lawrence-led movies.

Paramount TV media chair George Cheeks, whose domain has included all of CBS in addition to the Paramount cable networks, is said to be in line for an expanded oversight at the newly merged Paramount-Warner Bros. entity.
Skydance would not comment, but Cheeks has been seen as a strong lieutenant overseeing the TV properties under Paramount ever since Skydance took control of the company last August. Prior to that, Cheeks was one of the three co-CEOs of Paramount Global — and was the only one of that triumvirate to make the transition to the new company.
